Photos: The Time Capsule

2 years ago we created a time capsule in youth crew. We took polaroids together and wrote letters to our future selves. Then we sealed them up in a ball jar and stuck them in a weird little tunnel in the basement that the kids found sufficiently mystical for safekeeping.

Saturday was Ruby’s last day with Youth Crew. She’s moving to Maine to start a new chapter with her sweetheart, and Saturday marked the end of what’s been her weekly rhythm for the entire time Lupinewood has existed, hanging and adventuring with this crew of wild kids every weekend.

So we decided to open the time capsule, look through the photos, read what our past selves wrote to our now-selves and start again: Ruby took more polaroids, we wrote new letters, we sealed everything up and vowed not to open them together until the twin girls have their quinceañeras 7 years from now. Then some kids made art for her using the supplies she’s kept stocked for them since they were first learning to draw and paint.
