21 Nov How We Do It: House Position

We all have chores and pitch in to keep things clean and organized, but taking care of a place this big is daunting. We’ve discovered that if you have 9 artist-types sharing a place and running programs out of it, invite the public into it, throw in a couple of dogs and kids… without someone overseeing the care of that place, it descends reliably into chaos.

Jayne is the brave soul who’s stepped up to the plate as keeper-of-the-home. For a time she held the finances position at Lupinewood, but that position has shifted to Ben and now Jayne oversees the running of the house.

She makes sure the trash and recycling are collected and out on time. She keeps sponges, cleaning supplies, toilet paper and trash stickers stocked, and rotates cleaning all the different rooms and exterior spaces, like the Goblin Hole.

She shines a flashlight on the cobwebs and removes them, while spitting facts about the history and beneficial nature of the House Spider species.

She washes the rags, turns them from crusty back to fluffy and folds them in all the places they’re stored.

She starts the fires in the morning, brings in wood and splits kindling.

She does all this while beatboxing, cracking jokes, cackling to whatever’s going on inside her headphones and filling the place with her contagiously good vibes.
